Glenrothes High School is a six year non-denominational secondary school of approximately 860 pupils located in Glenrothes, Fife which opened in 1966.[1] The school serves the western/central and northern precincts of Glenrothes drawing primarily from four feeder Primary Schools; Caskieberran, Pitcoudie, Rimbleton and South Parks schools. The school also accepts a number of placing requests from other areas including the Collydean and Glenwood areas.

The school is distinguished by a cylindrical belvedere feature on the roof. This is a green house which was once used by biology students but is not currently in use. Facilities include an open plan assembly hall with a stage and projector booth. The physical education department has access to indoor facilities including two gymnasiums, a swimming pool and a modern gameshall which opened in 2007. Outdoor facilities including a tarmac running track, extensive playing fields, tennis courts and hockey, football and rugby pitches. There is a modern library and careers library and an ICT suite. The school has a Department of Additional Support comprising the former Department of Special Education and Physical Impairment Unit. There are a range of departments providing an extensive curriculum for education of all year groups progressing to standard grade, higher and advanced higher levels. These levels are soon to be phased out in favor of the new upcoming Scottish National Qualifications. The school operates a house system in which there are four houses, Burns, Carnegie, Stuart and Wallace.

The school was inspected in 2003 and 2005 and was considered in 2005 to have made very good progress since the inspection in 2003.[2] It was again inspected in September 2009 and made yet again, good progress. In 2010, at the start of the 2010-11 school year, the school began a new policy that would make every pupil have their planner on their desk during each lesson.
